IACET Accreditation... What does it mean for Plan Sponsors?

In 2019, the state of Georgia mandated continuing education hours for all public retirement system trustees. With continued scrutiny of public retirement plans, it is imperative that trustees and staff members receive quality educational sessions that focus on their roles and fiduciary responsibilities.

Since its establishment as a nonprofit organization in 2009, the GAPPT's sole mission has always been to promote high-quality, comprehensive, and unbiased education to public retirement system trustees and plan staff members. We sincerely believe “an educated fiduciary is an effective fiduciary™.” Because of this core belief, we undertook a rigorous accreditation process. Achieving IACET’s Accredited Provider status demonstrates that the GAPPT has the utmost confidence in its continuing education and training to submit itself for evaluation by a third party.

But this achievement is not limited to the Association! The IACET accreditation will positively impact GAPPT members in multiple ways, including:

FOR PLAN SPONSORS MEMBERS:

  • Provides confidence that the GAPPT has met rigorous standards for continuing education and training.
  • Assures that the GAPPT will continue to offer high-quality educational programs with relevant content.
  • Increases recognition among peers and colleagues in the public retirement sector.
  • Increases the value of the Certified Retirement Plan Fiduciary™ designation.
  • Allows the ability to transfer IACET CEUs earned at a GAPPT event to another cooperating organization.

FOR THEIR PLANS:

  • Assures that a member’s time spent at GAPPT educational events is worthwhile.
  • Provides greater confidence in the member’s professional competence.
  • Provides an opportunity for better-qualified individuals. This is particularly relevant for smaller plans where members may have limited time and resources to devote to retirement plan issues.
  • Assures that the GAPPT offers accurate member transcripts for plan reporting purposes.
  • Increases the public’s trust in the members and the Plan.

FOR THEIR PLANS' BENEFICIARIES:

  • Assures that their plan representatives and staff are committed to high-quality professional development.
  • Provides an opportunity to develop better-qualified individuals. This expertise can reduce costs through more efficient administration, enhanced investment performance, and a lower likelihood of litigation.
  • Increases trust in plan representatives and staff members.
